“Many women live like it’s a dress rehearsal.
Ladies, the curtain is up and you’re on.”
– Mikki Taylor

Specialty

Although we play several roles, each of us is the leading actor in this production called life.  For me, I have and continue to be a mentor, career woman, wife, and a mother of two beautiful boys. I truly understand the juggling act in today’s society, which gives me continued life lessons that sharpen my personal and professional growth.

Whether you are trying to balance several different roles or are struggling to simply master one - I will work with you to find calm amidst the storm, explore goals within your current career or desired calling, rehearse healthy relationship skills as a spouse and/or parent, and encourage you to “do you,” contrary to what the world may be saying.

In addition to working with women, I also have years of experience working with adolescents.  I have worked within today’s schools as a mentor, coach, and most recently as a Dean of Students in a private high school.  This season of life is a time of personal exploration, facing pressures to perform, and fighting for confidence and esteem.  Adolescents experience both their greatest accomplishments, as well as their toughest disappointments in life, thus far, and I love to partner with them in their adventure.

I also have a unique desire to use my athletic background and coaching experience to work with current and former athletes, as well as coaches and teams.  My outlook: “Once an athlete, always an athlete.”  Although an athlete’s career may be complete, competitive drive remains.  In my work with athletes, I strive to go beyond simply improving the mental game.  I also focus on helping athletes find healing from life’s tough situations.  I believe true personal healing will ultimately unlock a higher quality of performance.

What will sessions be like?

My approach, within a genuine and compassionate atmosphere, is both collaborative and goal-oriented which offers challenges for personal and professional growth.

Counseling is a very organic experience and often takes many different turns, which is why it takes a lot for me to feel shocked, so I encourage my clients to not hold back. When we are honest we have the most potential for growth, and when we practice what we learn, just like in athletics, we will see the most growth. This is why I often provide a take away or homework for my clients.  Counseling is a partnership, which is clearly reflected in my sessions.

Other Specialties:

My family and faith are the driving forces for everything else in my life, and it is where I find my peace and have discovered my passion and calling for counseling.  Not everyone shares this same rooted faith, however, so I allow my clients the option of pursuing a faith-based approach or not.

For individuals seeking pre-marriage or marriage counseling, I am a certified Prepare and Enrich facilitator to help couples recognize and face both strengths and weaknesses in their relationships.

I have unique clinical background in these additional areas:
  • Divorce

  • Adoption

  • Stress Management

  • Grief and Loss

  • Developing Self-Esteem and Confidence

  • Developing Strengths, Interests, and Identity

  • Career Counseling

Education and Background:

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education/Sports Management from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.  I am currently practicing as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Prior to becoming a counselor, my first career pursuit was mentoring athletes through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as coaching track & field for several years at the club, high school, and college levels.  As I encountered students and families facing personal struggles and brokenness, I had the desire to return to school for a degree in counseling to help people find healing, direction, and hope.  My post-graduate work was as a Dean of Students at Valor Christian High School, where my primary involvement was with social, emotional, and behavioral issues alongside both individuals and families.  I also worked with the School Resource Officer on safety concerns.

Alongside my work as a counselor, I love being a wife and mother to the three special men in my life: a wonderful husband and my two boys.  Our family enjoys eating at diverse restaurants in the Denver area, playing board games with friends, watching sports and supporting my husband’s basketball team, or just watching a movie at home.  With my hometown from Iowa, I am daily thankful for now getting to call this scenic state of Colorado home and love to take advantage of the beautiful mountains when I find time in my family’s busy schedule.
