Is your child or teen struggling with depression, anxiety, inattention, impulsivity, frustration or anger? Or, has your child been through a traumatic experience and is struggling to put the pieces back together?
I specialize in working with youth and families. My goal is to empower children and teens to understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and learn skills so they can be successful at home, school and in their relationships with others. My clients leave therapy with a skill set that will help them for their lifetime. I have been in practice for more than 20 years, with experience in private practice, schools and treatment facilities.
I offer parenting consultations, child therapy, (3-17), children’s groups and family sessions. With a strong background in education, I can be an advocate for your child’s needs within the school system and with other ancillary professionals.
I bring an empathetic, practical, relational and playful approach to my therapy sessions. I’m an excellent diagnostician with strong, yet sensitive clinical skills. My relationship-based treatment incorporates current research in neuroscience, developmental psychology and attachment theory.
I have extensive clinical experience with a range of child and adolescent needs and strong advocacy skills with public and medical communities to ensure that everyone on your team is “on the same page.”
In addition to private practice, I’ve also worked with multi-disciplinary teams, in early childhood settings, school settings and served as a leader trainer in both public and private therapeutic settings.
What will sessions be like?
I find that my clients and their families make the most growth through a genuine relationship, no matter what the age. As a seasoned professional, I take the time to establish trust and just as important, listen to and work toward your goals, while gently appreciating the growth process. It gets hard sometimes and we have to be honest with one another! I make it easier by helping you take a step back, as the caretaker, and see the big picture.
With children, I partner with caretakers to ensure that growth is family-based, and sustainable, all while progressing at a comfortable pace. So, rest assured, you’re in good hands. My child / family sessions start out with 10-20 minutes with parent and child. We explore growth and concerns. Next, I spend 20 or more minutes with your child, longer as the child’s attention span allows, for a 50-minute session. Then, I may give “homework” for family and child to practice that will move you toward desired outcomes.

Education and Background:
I completed my undergraduate work at Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, KS, before proceeding on to the University of Kansas for a Masters in Social Work (MSW). Upon graduation with an MSW, I entered into clinical supervision toward LCSW licensure. To expand my expertise, I partnered with an inpatient / outpatient facility early on to hone in on expert evaluations and discover how to collaborate with teams. The focus of my training and work incorporates a strong bend toward a family systems / attachment approach.
I’m a proud “Navy Mom,” of a wonderful son and I feel that my own parenting experiences, as well as supporting my siblings to raise their children, has enriched my therapeutic work providing me with greater empathy, understanding and an insight for the children, parents and community that I serve.
