Specialty

Do you ever wonder why you get so upset at your partner for something that can seem so small? Are you tired of having the same fight with the person you love? So often we walk through life not really understanding why we feel the way we do or why we are interacting with our loved ones, coworkers, or friends the way we are. We all have been impacted by our families of origin and I believe that when we make meaning of our experiences, we then have the emotional freedom to choose different actions and ways of living.

I have a passion for working with adult men and women looking for insight and understanding into their feelings and behaviors. Together, we will understand the emotional experience behind our quick reactions or triggers and when relevant, connect those emotional experiences to how we adapted and coped during our childhood. If you want to be an active participant in your life, rather than feeling like life is just happening to you, then I invite you to take this journey with me!

Additionally, I specialize in working with couples. I am trained in Emotion-Focused Therapy which is a model that works to understand patterns of interacting while exploring the deeper emotions, desires, and fears that drive how we respond to our partner. My goal in working with couples is to create a space where partners can actually hear each other’s deepest longings and needs, ultimately building emotional safety within the relationship.

What Sessions will be like:

As passionate as I am about uncovering the multiple layers of our existence, I understand that it can be scary and uncomfortable to open up to a stranger. To support this natural response, I work to create a very safe environment where my clients feel in control of the pace of services. I will give you the opportunity to use the space for what you need to process, while gently pointing out and labeling when continued themes and patterns arise in your life. The feedback I often get from my clients is “You’re not like other therapists”. Who I am in the room with my clients, is the same individual my friends and family get to see. I use humor and laughter to connect with my clients and I also find that showing my clients that I am also human fosters a more relaxed and safe environment.

Other Specialties:

My training and experience have also allowed me to successfully work with the following issues:

  • Relationships

  • Self-Esteem and Confidence

  • Managing Emotions

  • Communication Skills

  • Resolving Family Conflict

  • Parenting Skills

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Trauma - ART

I earned my Bachelor’s of Arts in both Psychology and Communications from the University of Northern Colorado; and my Master’s of Arts in Clinical Counseling: Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Northern Colorado. I currently hold two licenses as a Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two spoiled fur babies. Some of our interests include traveling to (and of course soaking in) natural hot springs and hiking! When I’m not trying to find the next best-kept secret, I’m usually spending time with extended family, hosting a bbq, or playing volleyball at Wash Park. Volleyball has been a big part of my life and actually is the reason I met my husband!
