I specialize in working with individuals who are experiencing substance abuse issues, major life transitions, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress, interpersonal relationship problems, serious persistent mental illness and gender identity issues. I use Cognitive Behavioral techniques to challenge thought distortions, and Dialectical Behavioral techniques to teach clients to regulate emotions and improve relationships with others. For those healing from trauma, I practice narrative therapy, cognitive processing therapy and exposure therapy.
My clinical professional background includes working in Crisis settings, behavioral health hospitals as a Psychiatric Social Worker and Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization addiction treatment programs specializing in trauma with co-occurring substance use disorders. More recently, I have begun working in Private Practice with those who identify as LGBTQIA who have co-occurring trauma and addictions, focusing on gender related issues. Currently, I am undergoing a certification in Nutritional Psychology with the hope of further understanding the relationship between nutritional behavior and mental health/well-being.
What will sessions be like?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us. Joy is what happens to us when we allow ourselves to recognize how good things really are. Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here….We can always choose to perceive things differently. You can focus on what’s wrong in your life, or you can focus on what’s right.”
– Marianne Williamson
My goal is to help others reach their individual potential and “produce themselves.” I believe that clients who are encouraged, acknowledged and held accountable can vastly improve their lives through counseling. The client who is validated and supported can successfully process their feelings about negative life experiences. As I cannot promise to “heal” past traumas and emotional wounds, I promise to walk alongside you on your journey and encourage you to challenge distorted thoughts and change destructive patterns of behavior.
